Local resale shops and yard-sales to be affected by new law

After seeing a line of people at a local WeeRuns sale, I can’t help to think of the people and local small businesses that will be affected by the new federal Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act. The law put in place, partially in reaction to the number of recent hazardous Chinese imports, will cover not only sales of new production imports, but will also cover re-sale of existing items. An article from the Seattle Times covers it best, “Anyone selling products, even used ones, that have been recalled or banned by the act is in violation. “

A New Venture in Community News

The name Free Rutherford and the freerutherford.com website has a bit of history behind it, but I’m more excited about the possibilities for its future. While “blog” style websites are not new, there is a new groundswell behind web based community news. It comes out of the decline print media has suffered.

While we have four dedicated volunteers that are working hard to find content that will be valuable to our community, I think the most valuable content will come from our community and I hope many will join with us in building a beneficial resource for the citizens of Rutherford County.

Free Rutherford has two goals: (1) To let the citizens have a voice in their community and (2) to let the citizens see what is happening in their community.

We will slowly ramp up activity on the site, but our goal is to have at least a couple of valuable pieces of content every day, so please check back regularly with us. If you have input or comments or features you would like to see added, please feel free to email us at: editor@freerutherford.com

Thanks for visiting the site.
